On Friday, April 24th, students at Del Mar had the opportunity to participate in the first of five sessions of a Trauma-Informed workshop via Zoom by Dr. Brinell Anderson. The training focuses on the traumatic effects of COVID-19 in students, families, and the community. The students will also learn about strategies and tools to help ground themselves during stressful situations. On this first session, students learned about the stages of grief and what looks like in the COVID-19 era, as well as deep breathing and grounding exercises. Dr. Anderson is a psychologist based in Pasadena, CA and has given trauma-informed trainings to staff before. She is very knowledgable and engaging with our students.
We had a great first session and cannot wait to learn more next Friday!
