Congratulations to Mrs. Kloster and her History Day Team. They performed at Azusa Pacific University this weekend in the LA County History Day competition. Winning his division in the Historical Performance category and going to the History Day California competition in Sacramento was Sergio Landeros. Winning the Chinese American Civil Rights Award and the Dr. and Mrs. Ruben Zapeda Humanitarian Award for their Historical Exhibit were Araceli Castro and Yesenia Cortes. Isaiah Subia and Michael Vidales also competed in the Research Paper category and were outstanding. All of the students and Mrs. Kloster put in countless hours of work, research and development and are to be congratulated for their efforts. Good Luck in Sacramento! We are proud of you all.

Del Mar Students visit the Museum of Tolerance

On Friday February 16th Del Mar took an all school field trip the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. The tour was both eye opening and relate able for our students for their own personal struggles and lives. Our tour guide did an outstanding job of relating the events of the Holocaust and recent genocides in other countries, protest and walkouts in our county to decisions our students face daily.
A special Thank You to the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) who provided us with the funds for transportation and entry into the museum.

Renowned Story Teller Diane Ferlatte with Eric Pearson perform at Del Mar

On Tuesday February 13th, Storyteller Diane Ferlatte performed for the students at Del Mar. Ms. Ferlatte, accompanied musically by Mr. Pearson, told stories of United States history that involved African American slaves and their significant contributions to our countries development and establishment. Her "We Were There", "stories about ordinary African Americans who did extraordinary things" performance was enlightening and informative to our students and staff. With period music from Mr. Pearson, it was a great experience for our students.
We thank The San Gabriel Education Foundation and Mrs. Anguili and The Music Center of LA County for bringing Ms. Ferlatte and Mr. Pearson to our campus. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Partnerships at Del Mar

We have kept an ongoing partnership with Planned Parenthood who comes weekly to talk to students about at-risk-teen behaviors. Planned Parenthood has been with us for 5 years and we have seen a marked decrease in some behaviors as a result. We have also started a partnership with Pacific Clinics to teach a weekly class on alcohol and drug awareness. This class will help our students be informed to make wise choices when presented with at risk opportunities. We also welcome our local San Gabriel Public Library Teen Liberian, Fiona Reimers who will come monthly to work with students on nutrition, financial and personal responsibility issues. All of these workshops are designed to empower our students with a knowledge base to make healthy and safe decisions.
