Del Mar Welcomes Author Daniel Acosta

On September 26, we welcomed local author Daniel Acosta who came to talk to the students about San Gabriel in the 1970s and his book, Iron River. He discussed goal setting and choosing a path for life that makes you happy and productive despite the hardships and detractors who don’t want to see you succeed. An important lesson for our students.
Mr Acosta grew up in San Gabriel and taught for many years at Mark Keppel High School. Mr. Acosta is a part of our partnership with the San Gabriel Library and Mrs Fiona Reimers and her Adult 101 program. We are thankful that Mr. Acosta was able to share his life and his book with our students. Not coincidentally, his son Dante is a proud graduate of Del Mar.
We thank Mrs. Reimers for bringing Mr. Acosta to our students today.

Field trip to Moorpark College Animal Training Zoo

On Wednesday September 18th, Del Mar students took a field trip to Moorpark College to visit their animal training zoo. Students received a "back stage" tour of the facilities and were able to interact with the college students who are in the program. The Moorpark program is the only one of its kind in the United States and students come from around the world to participate in and receive training certification from this program. We love for our students to see the facilities and hear about the program and possibly spark an interest in a career field they may not have known existed. Thank you to Mrs. Masri and our Del Mar staff for setting this trip up and making it a huge success.

Congratulations Student of the Week

Congratulations to Student of the Week Bailey Lang.
Bailey was awarded SOW for the week of September 30 - October 4. Bailey’s teachers praised her for her determination, work ethic and drive to make things productive. As many of our students do, Bailey deals with many things outside of the schools gates. She is able to come to school and make school her priority while she is here. She is hard working, kind and is an example to her classmates. Bailey is a great example of what our Del Mar family is all about.
Congrats Bailey, we are very proud of you!!
